On Thursday, April 25, The Hmm organizes a special evening in the chapel space of dbieb Leeuwarden in the Blokhuispoort. Together with artistic director Koen Bartijn of VHDG, they are working on an evening full of insight into different corners of the Internet.
During this evening we will explore the online practices and interests of eight artists, makers and researchers from Friesland and beyond. We will dive into topics ranging from digital exhibition spaces to intersections of ecology and technology.
The Hmm The Hmm, platform for internet cultures, aims to better understand the internet and digital culture. Through events, research files and educational programs, The Hmm provides tools to engage creatively and critically with your environment. Koen Bartijn Koen is a dramaturg, active researcher and art initiator in visual and performance art. He makes his own art productions and is a member and founder of the performance collective Antidot. He also directs VHDG, a contemporary art initiative that focuses on experimentation and talent development
Speakers:
Sammy Shefa Idris is originally from Hurdegaryp, Friesland, and is currently graduating from the Dutch Film Academy. Sammy will talk about the importance of social media spaces for creatives. Dr. Deike Schulz does research on the impact of online communication on organizations and society, and leads the lectorate Organizations and Social Media at NHL Stenden Hogeschool (Leeuwarden).
Zarina Nares is a New York-born artist of Indian Muslim and British descent. Her practice is research-based and explores female identity in virtual spaces.
Hieke de Jong is a Twitch streamer from Leeuwarden who streams live chat and VR games – think VR chat and Beatsaber. In her lecture, Hieke talks about her Twitch channel and how she interacts with her followers.
Martina Denegri is a researcher and writer from Groningen working in the fields of digital culture, digital archiving, cultural policy and gender in art and technology.
Jori(k) A. Galama moves between literature, visual art and documentary film. After propaedeutic studies in philosophy at the University of Amsterdam and completing Image and Language at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, they were selected for the Slow Writing Lab of the Dutch Foundation for Literature. Minnie Bates is a design researcher at affect lab – a creative and research studio in Amsterdam that focuses on using experimental fieldwork and immersive storytelling to inspire a more inclusive future.
Roman Tkachenko is a visual artist and architectural dramatist. Together with Maisa Imamović and Iskra Vukšić, Roman is part of the Timeis.capitalcollective, an audiovisual research platform that promotes self-organization in the arts, in the form of a digital platform (as a base), physical programming (symposium + exhibitions) and 3D video work.
