How do you turn a SRV-car into a sailboat that can sail over asphalt?
From September 1 VHDG’s SRV-car will travel Friesland for the fourth time, this time with artist Jop Vissers behind the wheel. For six weeks the SRV-car will be his house, working place and driving exhibition space.
Like an adventurer Jop is coming to explore Friesland. He thinks sailing is great, and so he wants to know everything about the Frisian sailing culture. Jop is ambitious: he wants to alter the SRV-car so it can travel from village to village solely on wind power. While on the go he is looking for the knowhow and help to realize this. Will you help him to make his dream come true?
With a max speed of 25km/h the SRV-car is only allowed to travel country roads and B-roads – the perfect speed for Jop to take in his environment with attention. Experiences and meetings provide inspiration for his working process. After his return he will present his work made on the road at Kunstinitiatief VHDG in Leeuwarden. The peculiar artist has all freedom to create a special, experimental exhibition. The opening on October 20 will at the same time be a festive welcome-back event for Jop and the SRC-car, everyone is welcome!
Jop Vissers Vorstenbosch (1986) is painter and illustrator and kan build everything. His atelier is a hangar of the former-airbase in Soesterberg and he lives in a self-built home. In his work he explores how daily ingredients like, highways and fluorescent tubes, relate themselves to the art of painting and the way in which we experience paintings.
